The hip joint is formed by the femur and pelvis, and is a ball and socket joint, meaning it has a high degree of freedom to move. That said, it also absorbs up to ten times your body weight repeatedly throughout the day, and 100’s to 1000’s of repetitions!
The hip serves as a link between your legs and torso, so if you are having issues with the surrounding areas, or with the hip itself, the hip joint can become painful, and stiff and affect your daily movement.
Treating hip pain starts with listening to what led this to happen, then assessing your spine, pelvis and hip movement, strength and stability. A review of the assessment results into a collaborative plan that may include a specific exercise programme tailored to your needs, and education/advice on achieving your goals. You don’t need a referral to see a Physiotherapist and if necessary, we can refer you for x-rays or scans to rule out any bone-related conditions.
Hip pain and issues can affect our ability to participate in the hobbies or activities that we enjoy in day-to-day life, but with the help and guidance of our Physiotherapists, we will help you get back to where you want to be and even aim to be better than before.
